Must See TV
Jul 30th, 2008 by Lauri
I confess: I love the television show, So You Think You Can Dance.
The dancers are amazing, the choreographers are truly brilliant, the costume design is gorgeous, the makeup and lighting are fabulous and I clap like an idiot after many of the numbers. Did I mention I love it?
What makes the program so special is that it gives all of us, non-professional dancers, insight into the nuts and bolts of most styles of dance. Forget Dancing With The Stars. This program is not about celebrities getting themselves in shape and performing schmaltzy routines. This is the real deal (brought to you by 19 Entertainment, the producers of American Idol). The judges, all world-class choreographers (including a few who have won Emmy awards for their choreography on the show) offer critiques, quickly analyzing the performances and, at the same time, teaching us laypeople, via play-back, why the leaps and moves we have just witnessed were done properly, or not. Because of this, I have an appreciation of the correct way to hold one’s head when tango dancing - not that I tango dance - and an understanding of what makes a good krumper. You don’t know what krumping is? You see? You need to watch!
The kids are all required to perform whatever dance they pick out of a hat, both coupled and solo. The judges offer their critique, and the audience votes each week, in order to narrow the group down and find “America’s Favorite Dancer.”
The final group, the top 6, are: Chelsie, Courtney, Joshua, Katee, Mark and Twitch. Check out the hot bodies! My hunch is that Josh, Katee and Chelsie will be there at the end and - I’m going to go out on a limb here - that Katee will win it all.
Tune in tonight, and let me know if you are also so moved or excited by some of what you see that you, too, find yourself clapping.
(So You Think You Can Dance, Fox 8 PM ET Wed. and 9 PM ET Thurs.)
I’m watching now. I love it as well. I know nothing about dance but have learned so much. These dancers are extremely talented and athletic. They make it look so easy.
I rarely watch TV, but I try and make time for “So You Think You Can Dance.”
I grew up dancing, and some of the choreography on the show is so moving that I cry.
Lauri, you are not the only one.
