in Quick & Easy Tips

Recently, I’ve noticed that a surprising number of clients are not living as comfortably as they might. I’m not talking about softer seating or good reading light in their homes – although those are always high on my must-have list – just the basics.

butter knifeFor example, while I was in the kitchen of one elegant older woman, she picked up a silver butter knife that was lying on the counter and proceeded to use it to pry open her cupboard doors in order to get to her teacups. When she noticed my expression (sorry, I could not help but stare!) she explained that it was difficult for her to use the finger pulls on the bottom of her cabinets so she, instead, uses the knife whenever she needs to open the doors to get to her china or glassware.

Another client, a successful investor, kept his laptop and all of his dining room work spacework-related papers in his clothing closet although he sat at the dining room table whenever he worked. He would go into his bedroom, pull out his computer and papers and then proceed to carry everything into the dining room where he would set up his home office. Every day.

Life could be so much easier, for both of these lovely people for the cost of cupboard handles for the lady (and not knobs that are difficult for older hands to grasp), and with the addition of an electric outlet and a stylish file drawer for the gentleman.

Think about the simple, affordable changes you can make to your home that will improve the quality of your life. Ask yourself which minor adjustments will make things easier. After all, you deserve to live as comfortably as possible, today. Don’t you agree?

I surely do agree. I have no patience for sticking drawers, broken handles, or my personal pet peeve: poorly organized kitchens. I visit family or friends and am continuously amazed at how inefficiently their work spaces are arranged, and I don’t just mean cluttered cabinet drawers. So much effort can be saved by thoughtfully placing items where they will be used. I think a well organized kitchen makes meal preparation a pleasure instead of a chore.
