When several different wood finishes are present in a single room, one of the simplest and least expensive ways to bring greater cohesion to the space is to add wood tops that are stained in the dominant veneer to the disparate pieces.
For example, if a room has mostly espresso-stained furnishings and there are a couple of pieces in light maple, adding espresso-stained tops to the light maple things can make the whole space look better coordinated.
Here, in a room comprised of mostly white wood and mica furniture, and a dark-stained headboard and end tables, an espresso top was added to a white bureau (along with a dark-stained strip on the bottom). This piece unified the white and dark furnishings and was reinforced by the new dark brown knobs on the upper cabinets.
If you are interested in adding new tops to one or more of your pieces in order to coordinate your wood finishes, call your local carpenter or cabinetmaker for an estimate.
