Blue seems to be the hot hue in home design, although green was forecast as the one to watch this year. Bolts of Tiffany blue fabrics and cans of ice blue paints can be found in every decorating store across the country.

In fact, blue is the most popular color in the world according to a survey conducted in 17 countries by three global marketing firms (Cheskin, MSI-ITM, and CMCD/Visual Symbols Library) and it has remained at the top of the list of favorite shades for decades.

Rooms swathed in blue are visible in magazines and on design blogs and they look equally appealing and tranquil – perfect for creating more Zen-like spaces in 2010. I have quite a few clients mixing their favorite neutrals with bits of the color: khaki with turquoise, charcoal with powder blue, taupe with pale aqua.
