October, 2001 Contest: What's the best thing about living in your neighborhood?

Congratulations to our contest winner!
Ruth Zeman of Sheppard, TX

My neighborhood may just look like a bunch of cookie cutter houses all lined up in a row but they are homes. Living on an Air Force Base, all the houses look exactly the same inside and out. At first glance an outsider may think that all the families on the inside must be the same as well, but I’ve discovered that in each house is a wealth of information and inspiration.

In one home I can learn about the best places to go to if I’m ever in Italy. Just across the street I can see all the diferences between Texans and Californians. I love seeing the crazy quilt of individuals that are in so many ways similar and in just as many ways different.
